# The Elections Chief Says There Is No Intelligence Behind the Eisenkot Security Story

Central Elections Committee chairman Noam Sohlberg said on Sunday that Shin Bet director David Zini told him there is no intelligence pointing to an effort to harm Gadi Eisenkot, the Yashar party leader and the frontrunner in most polls ahead of the 27 October election. Sohlberg described Zini as the professional authority on the question and said he had no basis to overrule him.

The statement follows Zini's own confirmation that he declined to assign Eisenkot an armed state security detail, telling him instead to call an emergency hotline if something happens. With no state protection in place, Eisenkot's campaign has hired private, unarmed bodyguards of its own.

Eisenkot led the IDF as chief of staff from 2015 to 2019 before launching Yashar on 30 June. A Zman Yisrael poll puts the party at 25 seats against 21 for Likud, and Sohlberg's statement lands in the middle of a campaign already shaped by warnings about Iranian election interference, even as the country's own security service reports no specific plot against the man currently leading it.
