Likud has formally accused Arab parties of widespread fraud in the 27 October election, submitting what it describes as hundreds of testimonies and pieces of evidence to the police and the Central Elections Committee. The party's claims cover cash distributed in envelopes alongside Ra'am ballots, multiple voting, forged identities, mismatches between ballots cast and registered voters, and threats against polling station staff, allegations the party has not independently verified in public and whose underlying evidence it has not released.

The accusations arrived once the arithmetic became clear rather than before it. Netanyahu's bloc remains short of the 61 seats needed to govern, and the Joint List and Ra'am together hold enough seats to decide which side can actually form a government, the same record Arab-led bloc Netanyahu had already called a shame and a disgrace on election night. A fraud investigation and a coalition negotiation are now proceeding on parallel tracks, each one capable of changing what the other is even arguing about.

What makes the claims hard to evaluate from the outside is exactly what makes them useful to make: Likud has described the scale of the alleged fraud, cash envelopes, forged identities, banned mobilization software, without opening the files behind it to scrutiny. Police and the Central Elections Committee now have to examine specific polling stations and specific testimonies before any of it becomes more than an accusation, a process that takes longer than a single news cycle and does not pause coalition talks while it runs.

The timing answers the question the allegations leave open. A charge this serious, aimed at the one bloc holding the balance of power, either slows that bloc's path into a government or it does not, and either outcome will look, to the voters on each side, like confirmation of whatever they already believed about the other's legitimacy. Whether the investigation finds anything is a separate question from whether raising it this week was about the vote count or about the government it might still block.
